Shirake Utsuri Shirake utsuri is the white mist floating in the ji along the shinoji. In this example, the shirake utsuri almost reaches the hamon near the yokote and the entire ji looks white in that area. Normally, shirake utsuri can not be seen from this viewing angle. For hands on study, one has to look down the length of a blade in proper lighting to see it clearly.
