About this sword :   A Zenjo Seki school wakizashi by the second generation Yoshitoki. He was active around Genroku (1678-1704). The nidai was the only Yoshitoki to use Kozuke in his mei. There were three generations of this line. They worked fully in the Mino style of Zenjo seki but they lived in Musashi. This is probably an example of migrating to the larger castle town where there was more work to be had. So many classic traits of Mino can be seen in this blade and at first, it seems like sue-Seki. This line of smiths is a minor group and there is not a lot known about them. This blade is in old polish with scratches and surface blemishes. Please see the photos for full details.

The handachi koshirae that accompanies this wakizashi is a stunning example and historically important. The majority of the fittings are shakudo nanako in the theme of two kamon. These are: Cho (butterfly) and Mamori (shrine amulet). Both of these mon were used by the Ikeda clan. The presence of both mon together make it possible for us to know this was worn by an Ikeda samurai. The fact that it is a handachi koshirae with kamon shows us further that this was made for a samurai, not a wealthy merchant of Edo times. The tsuba is shakudo nanako moko-gata with a dragon design on the mini and kiri-mon. The kozuka is copper base with a shakudo dragon. The menuki are of large dragons with fine detail work. The lacquer is in perfect condition and the whole koshirae is visually stunning.
