Hamon :  Nie-deki chu-suguha. There are ko ashi mixed in.

Boshi :   Ko-maru with a wide kaeri.

Kitae :   Ko-mokume hada. Mune-yaki can be seen.


About this sword :   This is a ubu mumei katana that has been atributied by the NBTHK to Omi no kami Tsuguhiro. He was a Echizen smith that worked in Edo and also in Omi. He was active around Kanbun(1661-1673). He is known for having made blades that cut well and is ranked by the Yamada family as Wazamono. This blade is in full polish and is flawless. It is a healthy blade and well made. This blade was registered in Japan(Torokusho)on March 17th of Showa 28(1953).

This katana conmes with its Edo period koshirae. The tsuka features shakudo nanako fuchi kashria of takabori gold nunome dragons with sukashi inome. There are shakudo dragon menuki with gold nunome detials. The iron tsuba is signed Awataguchi Tadatsuna. It has not been to shinsa but is probably gimei. It depicts fuji-san with a sue-mon zogan gold dragon coming out of the waves. There is a silver foil habaki. The saya is in its original black urushi with a small damaged/repaired area(see photos). There is a tsunagi for the koshirae and a shirasaya for the blade. Storage bags for the koshirae and shirasaya are also included as well as the NBTHK Hozon paper. A 17th century flawless Wazamono katana in full polsih with its Edo period koshirae.
