About this sword :   A fine shin shinto sunobi tanto by Sasaki Sadatoshi. He was active around Ansei (1854-1860) - Keio (1865). He was a skilled craftsman. He is listed as at 1.3 million Yen in the Tokotaikan and ranked at the Chu Jo Saku level by Fujishiro. He was active in Iwashiro and came in to the service of the Mito han. In fact, he was the personal smith for Lord Rekko of Mito.

This sword is in nice polish. The jigane is especially gorgeous and there is fulsome ji-nie to enjoy. There are some surface marks on the ji as shown in the photos. The horimono of a hi on each side adds an element of class to the overall sugata. There are no kizu and the blade is healthy. The kanji of 心 is recorded by Sadatoshi on the nakago. This same kanji was used in one of his studio names (清心子). The meaning of 心 is a "heart, mind, core or spirit". We can feel the intent and dedication of Sadatoshi's effort in this work.

A signed shin shinto tanto in full polish with papers from both the NBTHK and the NTHK. This also comes with a solid sliver habaki, shira-saya and a storage bag.
