An Akasaka school iron sukashi tsuba. The design here is of dragons chasing the hoju or sacred jewel. The carving of the sukashi elements and patina of the iron both show strong traits of Akasaka work. This dates to the late Edo period circa 1800. Accompanied by a NTHK Kanteisho paper and a storage box.
