Hamon :  The omote is choji midare. There are long ashi as well as inazma and kinsujii. There is an area of the hamon shaped like Mt Fuji. Both sides of the blade have a sugu yakidashi. The ura is gunome midare with lots of sunagashi. Many inazuma can be seen running along the masame ha hada and ashi are also present.

Boshi :  Osaka style ko maru with a long return, reaching a bit beyond the yokote. The tip of the boshi is brushed with nie.

Kitae :  Tight ko itame with a great deal of ji-nie. The hada is very clear. There is some flowing hada mixed in and some masame in the ha as well. Powerful yubashiri and tobyaki are plentiful.

Sugata:  This blade is ubu, with a cutting edge of 29.13 inches and a long nakago. It is exciting to see this healthy, ubu, long katana. Such an example is especially treasured and always commands a premium. The sugata is well preserved and textbook for its period of production. One can see the proper tapering mihaba of Kanbun shinto, regular sori and fumbari of a healthy ubu blade. This katana really conveys an awe inspiring powerful feeling when you hold it in your hand.

About this sword :  Yamato no kami Yoshimichi was the second son of the shodai Osaka Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi. This katana is by the second generation Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi. The large and powerful mei is a textbook example of his signature and the picturesque section of the hamon, showing Mt Fuji, is one of his styles. Second generation Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi is ranked higher than his father in the Toko Taikan. He is known as "Himeji Yamato" Yoshimichi because he was retained by Lord Banshu, of Harima no Kuni, at Himeji Castel. This blade's overall style represents Osaka Shinto very well, especially the yakidashi and the boshi. This blade has a nagasa over 29 inches and is truly something to behold. Ubu blades of this length are highly desirable. Judging from the long nagasa, hamon being different on both sides and the high quality of this blade, we suspect this would have been a special order blade and one that Yoshimichi really put his heart into making. This is in full Japanese polish and has a solid silver 2 piece habaki. This blade has a desirable early Tokubetsu Hozon paper (1983) and a lovely shirasaya. Needless to say, Tokubetsu Hozon Osaka shinto are highly prized and an example of this length and health presents an outstanding opportunity.
