About this sword :   This sword is very special. We are delighted to be able to offer such a rare and precious blade for your consideration. This is a Yamato Tegai tachi by the second generation Kanenaga that is ubu and signed. The empirical significance of the blade is staggering to comprehend. The nidai Kanenaga is ranked at 10,000,000 yen in the Tokotaikan. Only a very small handful of the very best makers are ranked at that level. The workmanship of this blade is fantastic and all of the classic traits of the early Tegai tradtion can be seen. This blade has a paper from the NTHK (NPO) issued under Miyano Sensei. The remarks section of the paper attributes the generation of this signed blade to the nidai Kanenaga. The are some small ware and minor rough hada and shinae. This blade is over 700 years old. Some signs of age and use are very acceptable for such an important sword. It should be noted that the boshi is fully intact.

When we compare this mei to that of the first two generations, the mei of this blade most similar to that of the shodai. There are only two known ubu zaimei blades in existence by the shodai (he is ranked at 15,000,000 yen in the Toko Taikan) Some high level collectors have felt that the notation of nidai on the paper may reflect the need to be conservative that we often see in attributions.

This blade comes in a shirasaya with an old sayagaki to the shodai Kanenaga. There is a fine double gold habaki and a storage bag. There is a wooden tag on the bag that states "Kanenaga" and the nagasa of the blade. The chance to own an ubu zaimei Kanenaga is less frequent than a lifetime for most of us. A fantastic opportunity for the serious collector.
