Higo Suwa
Iron Sukashi Tsuba
Mid Edo Period

Dimensions: 74 mm x 72 mm
Thickness: 5 mm

This is a Higo Suwa school tsuba. This has the classic silver and gold nunome of pine needles that the Suwa school is known for. Ginger shoots make the ryo-hitsu. This group came from Goto Eijo's student Shojo in the early Edo period and they made some nice tsuba. This example appears to be mid Edo. An attractive katana sized Higo tsuba.
