About this sword :   This is a fine wakizashi by Rai Kuniharu. He was an Owari smith who was also active in Edo. He was active around Shotoku (1711-1716). This is a healthy blade. The mihaba of this blade is 3.3 cm and the saki haba is 2.5 cm. The geometry and niku of this blade are nearly as they were 300 years ago. The quality of this blade is also impressive. There are no kizu, the jigane is overflowing with nie hataraki. The nioi-guchi is bright and in full of control. This blade is fully reminiscent of Shizu and as such, is classic example of Shinto Toku den. Rai Kuniharu's work is rare and this is not a name that one finds in many books. We can not help but feel that this blade was a made to order item, with his very best effort. This was awarded a Tokubetsu Hozon paper by the NBTHK. It has a few light scratches on the ji. It comes with a silver foil habaki, shira-saya and a storage bag. A high quality shinto wakizashi in a wonderful state of preservation.
