Hamon :  Ko-nie deki suguha with a tight and bright nioiguchi. Nijuba and ko-ashi activities are present.

Kitae :   Tight itame hada that is admirably clear. The jigane is finely and consistently forged throughout the whole length of the blade. Fine ji-nie. Shirake utsuri can be seen along the shinogi-ji on the ura side of the blade.

Boshi :  Ko maru with a medium return.

About this sword :   This is a wonderfully made koto wakizashi that has been attributed by both the NBTHK and the NTHK to the Sue Mihara school. This was made around Tenbun(1533 -1555). We can see "text book" traits of Sue Mihara in this work. Fine ko itame jigane with prominent forging pattern and ko-nie deki suguha hamon. One expects to see some sumigane in Mihara as a kantei point. No sumigane can be seen in this blade because of its good health. This has nice old bo hi on both sides of the blade that are cut thought the osuriage nakago. The geometry and clarity of the polisher's work is excellent as is the shira-saya and habaki. The habaki is a nice gold foil example with notches to fit the hori. Here is a great opportunity to acquire a nice sword at less than the cost of restoration and shinsa. It stands above many more expensive items due to its quality and condition. Having both the NBTHK and NTHK give this blade the same kantei is as sure as one can hope for in terms of an attribution. It comes with both papers, shira-saya, gold foil habaki and a storage bag.
