About this yari: This is a yari by the Owari shinto smith, Masahide. He was active around Kanbun times (1661-1673) and works by him are seldom seen. This yari is a well-made, healthy example. The workmanship features a nie-deki suguha hamon with nijuba. The jigane on the bottom plane is ko-itane. The jigane on the angled planes is tight masame. There is profuse ji-nie and the turn back at the crest is well done. Three-sided yari like this have two hamon and it takes skill to control the results of yaki-iri in making them. This yari is in full polish and has a nicely made new shirasaya. This had a paper but it has been lost. The consignee is happy to offer this with a one year guarantee that it will pass NBTHK Hozon evaluation.
