A fine tall vase by Kato Shigetaka (1927-). He is the third son of Kato Tokuro and the younger brother of Okabe Mineo. Shigetaka is a highly regarded artist. He won the Japan Ceramic Society Prize and his work was featured on the cover of "Modern Japanese Ceramics in American Collections", an exhibition catalog published by the Japan Society, NY in 1993. This is an absolutely exquisite vase by Shigetaka. It shows all the characteristics of his style and is in perfect condition. Signed on the bottom of the work. A previous owner commissioned a hand made textile to accompany this vase. Its is a fine work of art in its own right. Note the visual texture of the cloth and the deep blue tone of the natural dye that was used to make it. This is also accompanied by a hand-crafted paulownia wood box. Please note the quality of the wood used, jointed construction and dowel rods used. All aspects perfectly fitted. A wonderful opportunity to own a high-end example of Shigetaka's work.
