Kaga Yoshiro Tsuba

Diameter: 78mm x 77mm
Thickness: 5mm

This is a well preserved and nice example of the Kaga Yoshiro school. This tsuba has an iron ji with a rich brownish black patina. The web features a mixture of brass and copper inlay of arabesque design in the Kaga Yoshiro style. This tsuba dates to the very early Edo period (circa 1596 - 1623). It is always a joy to see how others have adored these treasures in previous generations. At some point in the long history of this tsuba, an owner had fine seki gane made for the kogai hitsu with kebori of a complimenting arabesque design. An attractive, well preserved and representative piece.
