About this sword :   This is a wonderful koto katana that has bee attributed to Hachiya Kanesada by Fujishiro Matsuo. The blade is quite healthy and it is flawless. Hachiya Kanesada is a well regarded Mino smith. Fujishiro's Koto Hen states that he was the best middle period late Seki smith behind Kanemoto, Kanesada and Kaneaki. This blade belonged to Col. Dean Hartley at one time. He had this blade restored by Fujishiro Matsuo. Fujishiro also issued a kanteisho for this sword and did a lovely saya-gaki. The overall restoration and presentation of this katana is very nice. The nagasa of 70cm combined with the saki-sori really convey a powerful feeling when you study the blade "in hand". This sword has a kiri-komi on the mune (see photo). Kiri-komi are proof of a blade's battle prowess and durability. Considering that this blade dates to the battle-ridden Sengoku jidai, its amazing to think of the famous battles and wonder what duel this kir-komi came from. This comes with an antique habaki, shira-saya with Fujishiro Matsuo's saya-gaki, Fujishiro kanteisho and a storage bag. A flawless koto katana and attractively priced.
