About this sword :  This katana was made by the second generation Kanenori and dates to about 1661-1673. Kanenori was from the Echizen Shimosaka group which has its roots in the Mino tradition. This katana is in old polish with scratches, tiny chips and surface blemishes. One can still see much of the hataraki and there is a lot to study and enjoy, even in this old polish. The blade has a strong Soshu flavor and is packed with nie hataraki. This Kanenori has a reputation of making swords that cut well and he is ranked Wazamono by the Yamada family. It is accompanied by a gunto koshirae that features the thick sukashi style gunto tsuba we associate with higher class gunto. The tsuka ito is damaged and there are no menuki. This blade is also accompanied by a 75 point NTHK (NPO) paper which attests to the quality and authenticity of the work. This is a signed 350 year old sword which is well papered, has a koshirae and is being offered at an attractive price.
