About this sword :   An excitng Osaka shinto katana. Signed "Mutsu no Kami Kaneyasu" on the omote and a kinzogan saidan mei recording a two body cutting test by Matsumoto Chodayu Masamoto on the ura. The test is datded March 27th, 1694. This has a shira saya (serves its function well but not in perfect condition) and a high quality katana koshirae. The blade was published in the Shinto Taikan and it has a Tokubetsu Hozon paper. Kaneyasu is highly regarded. He is ranked Jo Saku in Fujishiro's Shinto-hen and rated at 3.8 million yen in the Tokotaikan. There are some scratches and imperfections on the old polish as shown in the photos.

The Edo period koshirae is in excellent condition. The tsuka-ito is quite old and shows wear on the high spots. The fuchi/kashira are top quality Mino work with fine carving of ginger and vines. The menuki look to be Goto school of shakudo bulls and excellent quality. The tsuba is fine Namban work. Shakudo habaki with gold wash on the top and bottom.

Published with the full mei and drawing of the monouchi in the important work "Shinto Taikan". Awarded a Tokubetsu Hozon paper by the NBTHK. The blade was originally registered in Showa 26, the first year the registration started and re-registered in Heisei 26.
