Hamon :  Nie deki gunome midare based on suguha with a soft nioi-guchi. The hamon pattern is highly active with togari and tightly packed gunome formations. Hataraki includes abundant nioi ashi and bright inazuma. There is pronounced ha hada.

Boshi :  Togari on the ura and ko-maru on the omote. There is abundant sunagashi in the boshi and chikei can be seen as well.

Kitae :  Itame mixed with masame and mokume. The forging pattern is nagareru overall and there is some o-hada. There are many chikei in the ji as well as small tobiyaki floating above the hamon.

About this sword :  Yashu Yukihide was a student of both Hosokawa Masayoshi and Shuishinshi Masahide. These famous smiths strongly aimed to revive the workmanship of koto times and a reflection of this can be seen clearly in this work by Yukihide. Especially the soft nioi guchi, hataraki reaching the ha, abundant chikei and the style of forging all add to the koto flavor of this blade. The blade has ubu-ba and it is healthy with a thick kasane and ample hira-niku. The blade is in old polish and there are scratches and blemishes. The workmanship can be fully enjoyed as is, but a fresh polish would bring this work to its full potential. The shira saya is an old one with a cracks at the saya throat and old damage. It is accompanied by a raindrop pattern solid silver habaki, in pristine condition, and a silk storage bag. Works of Yashu Yukihide are seldom seen. This blade is ideal for those that enjoy discovering and studying competent works by relatively unknown smiths. This blade is ubu, zaimei, dated and full of wonderfull activities to enjoy.
