Hamon :   Nie-deki gunome midare. Thick ashi amd many sunagashi are present. The nioi guchi is wide and bright.

Boshi :   Ko-maru with a long return.

Kitae :   Ko-mokume. The jigane is uniform throughout the length of the blade and is very clear. Ji-nie and chikei are present. The ji-nie is made up of fine grains of ko-nie.

About this sword :  This is a signed and dated katana by the thrid generation Omi no kami Tsuguhira. The Tsuguhira line came from Echizen Yasutsugu and their work shows the style of the Musashi area in the Edo period. This example is especially important to preserve because it is a signed, dated, ubu and is a katana. It was made in August of 1750. This blade is in need of polish. The photos below are of limited value due to the state of polish. When you view the blade from an oblique angle, one can see the thick and well controlled nioi guchi clearly. This blade was submitted for shinsa and received an NTHK(NPO) kanteisho paper. It was able to receive 72 points in this state of polish. There are no kizu. There are some small spots of coarse hada in the monouchi as shown in the photos below. This has the remains of a koshirae and a nice silver foil habaki. It comes with the NTHK(NPO) paper and work sheet as shown. Attractively priced.
