About this sword :   This is a large hira-zukuri wakizashi that has been attributed to Odawara Soshu Fusamune by the NTHK(NPO). Fusamune is a well regarded maker. He is ranked at Jo Saku by Fujishiro and given 5 million in the Tokotaikan. This is the "textbook" style of hamon for Fusamune. Specifically, this style of choji with gunome midare mixed with hitatsura is exactly what is shown in books. This group's horimono is also highly esteemed. The blade has original horimono of a bo-hi with red urushi on the ura and a duoble-hi with a bonji on the omote. This blade also has a mitsu-mune. This is in good old polish. There are some surface scratches, light blemishes and some areas of light non-active rust. There are some kitae ware as shown in the photos. They are not a bother to those that enjoy koto blades. This blade was awarded 75 points by the NTHK, which reflects what a nice blade this is.

This sword has an authentic Edo period koshirae. This set was made for this blade and has been well preserved for many generations. The saya features an ishime ji and iron handachi fittings. The kurikata is iron with gold nunome of a dragon. The tsuba looks to be a Choshu example. It is iron and is nicely carved in the style of a basket weave with a bamboo mimi. The fuchi kashira is shakudo with kamon. The menuki are nicely finished kyo-kinko dragons. The same and tsuka ito are old. There is some fraying and separation of the ito near the kashira. It can be carefully preserved in this state. There is a kozuka and blade as well as a umabari(used for bleeding a horse). The kozuka blade is signed "Edo Kanda ju Kanenaga". This is a very attractive set of original mounts and it looks wonderful on display.

Old blades with original Edo period koshirae are in high demand with a short supply. This sword presents a great opportunity to add a Koto Soshu Fusamune to one's collection. Its comes with the NTHK(NPO) paper with its 75 point worksheet and a nice storage bag.
