Hamon : Ko gunome based on suguha. The hamon is ko nie deki and the nioiguchi is soft. There are many ashi. Active inazuma can be seen and there is sunagashi.
Boshi : Midare komi with a medium kaeri. There are abundant sunagashi and nie activities.
Kitae : Tight itame hada with abounding ji nie. The ji nie is vibrant and clear. Chikei is present as well as yubashiri in the monouchi.
About this sword : This is a fine koto Yamato katana that has been attributed as "Den" Shikkake by the NBTHK. The Shikkake smiths made weapons for the Sohei, the fierce warrior monks of Yamato province. These weapons performed well in battle and have long been admired for their functional excellence and fine craftmanship. This katana is very healthy and the jigane is flawless. The horimoro of bo hi with soe hi compliment the graceful sori of the katana wonderfully. This katana dates to the active period of the Shikkake school, from later Kamakura times through the Nanbokucho period. This katana has an old elegance and tapering mihaba with stong sori. The sori is mostly in the koshi and there is nearly no sori in the upper section of the blade.
There is slight remnants of an old inscription on the nakago that was professionally removed. The nakago is now in correct order and is atheistically pleasing. The polish of this katana is good and it is in excellent condition. The clarity of the ji-nie is especially commendable. The sword is accompanied by a nice shirsaya with horn inserts around the mekugiana, solid silver habaki, NBTHK Hozon paper and a nice storage bag. Considering that this is a main line koto katana and its wonderful health and quality, this sword really has a lot going for it. It has been priced by the owner for a quick sale.
