Hamon : Nie deki hako gunome midare. Hataraki includes ashi and sunagashi.
Boshi : Yaikizumi (result of naoshi)
Kitae : Itame becoming masame in the ha. Ji-nie and chikei are abundant. Some of the chikei are large and long.
Sayagaki by Tanobe Michihiro : IWAMI NO KUNI SADATSUNA However, this is a mumei naginata naoshi. Gonometsure and sunagashi are applied in a mainly nie tone. The workmanship is typical within the work range of this same smith. The jidai is the Nambokuchô period. Hachô is slightly over 1 shaku 3 sun 7 bu. June 10th 2008. About this sword : This is a powerful Nambokucho naginata naoshi that has been attributed to Sekishu Sadatsuna. His father, Naotsuna has been listed as one of Masamune's Juttetsu since olden days. The actual relationship between Masamune and Naotsuna is thought by modern scholars not to be a direct teacher/student relationship based on dated works but, none the less, his work is certainly top class Soshu of the Nambokucho jidai. This naginata naoshi is only one generation away from the Juttetsu and presents a fantastic opportunity to study Soshu den. This blade is in full polish. There is a kitae ware, as shown below. Also, there is some old damage to the nakago. This has a nice saya-gaki by Tanobe Michihiro. It affirms the NBTHK attribution to Sadatsuna and states that this blade was made in the Nambokucho period. This has a NBTHK Hozon paper. It also comes with a nice bag and a lovely gold foil habaki. This is not prefect so the price is very attractive.
