About this sword :   This is an ubu wakizashi by the 3rd generation Owari Morimichi. He was active around Genroku (1688-1704). The shodai of this line was from late koto times and related to Kanemichi, founder of the Mishina school. This Morimichi line of smiths came from the Seki-Nana-Nagare group. Works of the 3rd generation are seldom seen. This ubu signed example is important for reference and research.

This blade reflects the Mino style of Owari with its nioi-deki togari hamon. This blade is healthy, well-made and is in full polish. There are no kizu.

This wakizashi is accompanied by a late Edo period koshirae. The saya done in gold and black swirl urushi with kamon and in excellent condition. The tsuka-ito and same show age. The fuchi kashira are shakudo nanako with gold nunome dragons. The tsuba is an iron mokko shape and appears to be Higo work. The habaki is an old copper gold wash example. The sageo is an old hand made one. It is a charming sageo and compliments the koshirae well. A shakudo nanako dragon kozuka by Ishida Takachika completes the koshirae. The kozuka has some damage on the boarder(see photo). The koshirae is well preserved and looks wonderful on display.

This Morimichi has an 2016 NTHK(NPO) 77 point Kanteisho paper. The high score of the paper reflects the quality, health and empirical value of the mei. An ubu, zaimei, papered wakizashi in full polish with a koshirae.
