About this sword :   This is a naginata by Ikutama no Sho Inoue Tadashige. He was was a student of shodai Tadayuki and thus from the Awataguchi Tadatsuna branch of the Osaka shinto school. Tadashige was active around Kanbun (1661-1673) and is known to have worked in Osaka and Edo.

This naginata is healthy and ubu. The nakago retains its original length and there is only one mekugi-ana. The blade is in old polish. There are surface scratches, light blemishes and dark spots on the ha where surface rust was rubbed off. The workmanship of the blade can be studied in its current state and there is much to enjoy. The gunome choji hamon is bustling with activity and the shape of the blade conveys a powerful feeling. Horimono of naginata-hi are present. This nagainata has a 75 point kanteisho paper from the NTHK (NPO). It is also accompanied by an Edo period habaki and an old shira-saya. A great opportunity to acquire a signed, papered Osaka shinto naginata.
