About this Daisho :   Daisho are highly sought after and seldom seen on the market. This is a matching katana and wakizashi by the Shodai Tameiye. He is a Jo saku smith and a representative craftsman of the Mizuta School. Both blades show the traits of Mizuta clearly. Large nie particles in the ha buchi and ji as well as mune yaki are classic characteristics. With Daisho, typically the katana will be rather reserved and the wakizashi, more flamboyant. That is certainly the case here. The katana has a sugata reminiscent of koto and a elegant suguha hamon while the wakizashi has a stout shinto sugata with a wild toran-ba style hamon that almost hitatsura in some places.

This daisho was restored in Japan in the 1980's. Both blades were polished by Kotoken Kajihara. Kotoken Kajihara is a top level polisher and is also the author of the book "Nihonto Swords of Japan, A visual Glossary". The quality of the polish is excellent. The matching deluxe shira saya are both fitted with horn koiguchi and hard wood inserts at the mekugiana. The matching solid silver double habaki are also of fine workmanship. Both blades are accompanied by NBTHK Hozon papers and storage bags.
