Hamon :  Nioi deki gunome midare. The hamon pattern is highly active and there is much togari. There is prominent ha hada. Hataraki includes nezumi ashi, sunagashi and yo.

Boshi :  Slightly midare komi with strong togari and short pointed return. Sunagashi can be seen in the boshi's nioi guchi.

Kitae :  O-itame mixed with mokume and masame in the ha. The jigane is hada-tachi overall. There is some sumigane in the monouchi. The jigane has a white tone overall. There is strong shirake utsuri which becomes nearly midare utsuri in places. The shinogi-ji consists of masame hada.

About this sword :  This is a nicely representative example of a fighting sword from Mino province in late koto times. Especially the nioi deki togari filled hamon, togari boshi and shirake utsuri are impotant points of appreciation for the Mino tradition. The Kanesada smiths were very active in the Sengoku-jidai, from which this blade dates, due to the high demand created by constant warfare. This blade is ubu and zaimei. The substantial length of the blade and large kisaki give a fierce strong impression. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a ubu zaimei papered koto katana, especially in this length. It is accompanied by a gold foil habaki, shirasaya, storage bag and NBTHK Hozon paper attesting to the quality of the blade and authenticity of the mei.
