About this sword :   Masataka was from the Kasama Ikkansai mon. Born in 1891. His lineage is very interesting. Masataka's teacher was Ikkansai Sakai Shigemasa. Shigemasa's teacher was Kasama Shigetsugu, who learned form his uncle, Morioka Masayoshi, a student of both Gassan Sadakazu and Minomoto Kanenori. Masataka's last name is Takano and he lived in the city of Omi, in Tokyo prefecture. In 1942 he became student of Ikkansai Shigemasa. After WWII he became a student of the polisher, Hirajima and learned sword polishing. In 1961, he went back to Shigemasa and learned sword making again. He is skilled at his teacher's grand Bizen style and his works won awards at the 4th, 5th, and 6th NBTHK Shinsakuto competitions. This tanto is a fine work with no kizu. It is in Masatakas favorite deki of Bizen den and shows full control in its nioi-guchi and ji hataraki. This is a special order blade for Fujisawa Ichii and made with great care. Masataka was 78 years old when he made this tanto. It comes with a gold foil single habaki, shirasaya and a storage bag. A nice shinsakuto with strong ties to some of the top smiths of Meiji - WWII times.
