This is a wonderful mainline Goto school kozuka. The theme is that of a calligraphy brush. This kozuka is accompanied by a NBTHK Hozon paper attributing it to the Goto School and specifying that it is a work of the Momoyama Jidai (1573 - 1603). Note that this kozuka is made with one joint (see below photo) which is a method common in older Goto works. The piece is in remarkable condition, especially considering its age of over 400 years. The handle section of the brush is covered in a sheet of Gold. All the nanako remains sharp and the color applied to the brush is fully intact. This is a nice representative Momoyama Goto school work in fine condition.
