Hamon :  Gunome midare with some choji formations mixed in. The hamon is nioi deki entwined with nie. Small ashi can be seen and the kashira of many gunome. The tani of the gunome have comparatively longer, thick ashi. Ha hataraki includes yo and soft sunagashi that intersects many of the ashi.

Boshi :  Midare komi that is streaked with sunagashi and ko-nie. The ura has kaen at the saki with a short return. The omote is togari with a long return reaching back to the end and the same point as the yokote.

Kitae :  Ko itame nagareru. The jigane is prominently clear and there is ji-nie.

About this sword :  The Kanabo smiths are descended from the Yamato tradition. However, their workmanship is typicaly more like the style of Mino as is this example by Masasada. This blade is ubu and zaimei and dates to about 1573. This blade has a saya gaki by Kentaro Yoshikawa and is accompanied by a NTHK Kanteisho paper that was issued under Kentaro Yoshikawa. His sayagaki are quite rare and this is a wonderful compliment to the blade. It is also accompanied by a very nice double silver and gold habaki as well as a storage bag. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find an ubu zaimei papered koto katana. Considering this and that it represents the Kanabo tradition wonderfully, this blade presents a great opportunity.
