Higo Jingo
Iron Tsuba
Edo Period

Dimensions: 78 mm x 74 mm
Thickness: 4.5mm

This is a high quality moku-gata Higo Jingo school tsuba. The patina is a wet and dark chocolate brown. The brass inlay work is done in the classic Jingo style. The theme is that of a sage hat, rope and a fireman's hook. This has a ji with granular tekotsu throughout and a well hammered surface. Works of this level are normally attributed to the earlier Jingo masters. The design of a fire hook is more often seen in works of the fourth or fifth Jingo masters. In any case, an ideal and representative example that is a joy to recommend.
