About this sword :   This katana was made by Ishido Morihisa. He lived in Edo and his common name was Ishido Hachisaemon-no-jo Morihisa. He was active in Kanbun times(1661-1673) He became a monk in Enpo 4(1676)and took the name of Toren. This blade has his mei of "Toren" so we can date it to the time of 1676 until his passing. Morihisa originally came from Owari and was a relative of Higo-no-kami Hata Mitsuyo. He belonged to the Mitsuhira branch of Edo Ishido school. Morihisa's work is ranked "Wazamono" by the Yamada family for the cutting ability of his swords. This blade is in old polish. One can appreciate the blade fully as it is but there are surface blemishes as shown in the photos. There are some small kitae ware as shown in the photos. This blade has clear midare utsuri and shows the Bizen aim of the Ishido ha clearly. It is accompanied by a shira-saya, copper habaki, storage bag and a NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho paper. A signed and papered katana by a well regarded Ishido smith.
