Akao Tsuba

Mei:Kofu ju Tatsutoshi
NBTHK Hozon

Diameter: 70mm x 62mm
Thickness: 4mm

Tatsutoshi was a member of the Akao ha. According to the Nihonto Koza, his name was Ido Tadashichi and he lived in Edo. The subject mater of this work is a begonia. Akao tsuba have a high reputation. Their output was quite small as they worked exclusively for Daimyo. Tatsutoshi is listed at the 4th level by Wakayama. His father, Yasutoshi is ranked below him at the 5th level. This is very good. More than half of the makers in Wakayama's book are not ranked at all. Despite it neededing some TLC, the skill of the carving, gold nunome and wonderfull composition offer much to enjoy. This iron sukashi tsuba is accompanied by a 2002 NBTHK Hozon paper and a paulownia storage box.
