About this sword :   This is a koto katana in the hira zukuri shape. Katana in this shape are quite rare and desirable. This example dates to the Koto period. Based on its sugata, we feel this is a uchigatana made for fast one-handed use in Muromachi times. The chikei in this katana is really exciting and we admire the wide moto-haba, bo-hi and old ubu nakago very much. This blade is showing its age with some rough hada and minor ware. There are no fatal flaws and this katana is certainly one that should be well preserved. This blade comes from an estate and has not been submitted to shinsa. We can point out both Mino and Yamato traits in its workmanship. The sword is accompanied by an antique silver foil habaki and state side shirasaya. It has been priced for a quick sale.
