江戸時代 甲冑師
Edo Jidai Katchushi Tsuba
Iron Sukashi
NBTHK Hozon

Dimensions: 8.7 cm x 8.1 cm Mimi 3 mm

A large iorn sukashi katana tsuba. This is the spool theme with inome. This tsuba has an NBTHK paper attributing as a Katchushi work from the Edo period. The mimi is thin at 3 mm and the plate looks very old. This work would have been an utsushi of a Muromachi period tsuba. Thus, this guard presents an excellent opportunity for those interested in the study of Katchushi tsuba. Comparative study of this work with other examples will certainly broaden ones level of understanding. This would also be an ideal example for mounting on a large katana koshirae. Iron sukashi tsuba like this always add a "Tensho charm" to an austere koshirae.
